Renegade is two years past its original release date and clearly from what we saw more than three years ago, it hasn’t quite kept up with the leaders in terms of looks.
And with FPSs especially, there are so many masterpieces around that there was a very real danger that C&C: Renegade could well be, well. The point is that while Westwood hasn’t been afraid to dunk its potatoes in other pots of paint, the finished picture hasn’t always been worth sticking to the fridge door. It was a very bad online version of Ikari Warriors, basically, and even though it bore the C&Cname, it probably wouldn’t garner more than a few cursory lines in the 'Authorised History Of Westwood Studios’, if such a book existed. Closer to a nugget of poo than gold was the online-only C&C: Sole - Survivor, a prequel of sorts to the very game we’re here to evaluate. Not that we’re for one moment suggesting Westwood has the Midas touch. Worth playing and comparatively youthful R. of, if not for the Kyrandia series,then for the still In adventuring circles too, Westwood is fondly thought. In fact, before it rose to become the biggest name in strategy gaming, Westwood was the crown prince of role-playing, having created both the Eye Of The Beholder and Lands Of Lore trilogies.

Certainly Westwood is more flexible than most software developers, as aside from having single-handedly created the modern strategy game, is has over the years released some passable titles outside of the select and direct world of Command & Conquers toy soldiers. It’s a bold move when a game developer turns its hand to a genre it previously has little experience at.

It is like they tried to make a multiplayer shooter and sprinkle elements of the Command and Conquer series over it, but for me, it did not click at all and I could not get into it. You can spawn vehicles, get upgrades, and so on. You have to protect your own base, destroy the enemy one, or have the most points at the end of the battle. This is called, Command and Conquer Mode and the idea is that you have one team playing as the good guys the GDI and the other as the bad guys the Nod.
The game did have a multiplayer component, but it was not for me. I know this sounds basic, but it is quite fun and the campaign in Command and Conquer Renegade does not overstay its welcome. Occasionally, you will have another objective like destroy a base, protect a civilian, and so on, but for the most part, you just keep shooting until you get to the end of a mission. You just turn your brain off, have fun, and shoot anything that moves. You can play in the first or third person and you are on an all-out attack. The thing is, there is no stealth or sneaking around in this game.

It is like something out of an action movie and while it is not going to win any awards for the writing, it is a decent enough story and it certainly kept me interested. In order to do this, he heads all over the world trying to stop it from happening. The campaign is about the creation of these super soldiers that Havoc is trying to put a stop to.

The game takes place during the Tiberium War and you play as Nick Parker, better known by the badass name of Havoc! Full Frontal Assault One thing I have always enjoyed about this series is the lore and one of the aspects I thought was cool about Command and Conquer Renegade was how it was set in a part of the Command and Conquer lore that most of us know.
